Woe1 to those who go down to Egypt2 for help, who rely on horses,3 who trust in the multitude of their chariots4 and in the great strength of their horsemen, but do not look to the Holy One5 of Israel, or seek help from the LORD.62
Yet he too is wise7 and can bring disaster;8 he does not take back his words.9 He will rise up against the house of the wicked,10 against those who help evildoers.
But the Egyptians11 are men and not God;12 their horses13 are flesh and not spirit. When the LORD stretches out his hand,14 he who helps will stumble, he who is helped15 will fall; both will perish together.164
This is what the LORD says to me: "As a lion17 growls, a great lion over his prey-- and though a whole band of shepherds18 is called together against him, he is not frightened by their shouts or disturbed by their clamor19-- so the LORD Almighty will come down20 to do battle on Mount Zion and on its heights.
Like birds hovering21 overhead, the LORD Almighty will shield22 Jerusalem; he will shield it and deliver23 it, he will 'pass over'24 it and will rescue it."
Return25 to him you have so greatly revolted26 against, O Israelites.
For in that day27 every one of you will reject the idols of silver and gold28 your sinful hands have made.298
"Assyria30 will fall by a sword that is not of man; a sword, not of mortals, will devour31 them. They will flee before the sword and their young men will be put to forced labor.329
Their stronghold33 will fall because of terror; at sight of the battle standard34 their commanders will panic,35" declares the LORD, whose fire36 is in Zion, whose furnace37 is in Jerusalem.
