A Prophecy Against Assyria

24 The LORD Almighty has sworn,1 "Surely, as I have planned,2 so it will be, and as I have purposed, so it will stand.3 25 I will crush the Assyrian4 in my land; on my mountains I will trample him down. His yoke5 will be taken from my people, and his burden removed from their shoulders.6" 26 This is the plan7 determined for the whole world; this is the hand8 stretched out over all nations. 27 For the LORD Almighty has purposed,9 and who can thwart him? His hand10 is stretched out, and who can turn it back?11

A Prophecy Against the Philistines

28 This oracle12 came in the year13 King Ahaz14 died: 29 Do not rejoice, all you Philistines,15 that the rod that struck you is broken; from the root of that snake will spring up a viper,16 its fruit will be a darting, venomous serpent.17 30 The poorest of the poor will find pasture, and the needy18 will lie down in safety.19 But your root I will destroy by famine;20 it will slay21 your survivors.22 31 Wail,23 O gate!24 Howl, O city! Melt away, all you Philistines!25 A cloud of smoke comes from the north,26 and there is not a straggler in its ranks.27 32 What answer shall be given to the envoys28 of that nation? "The LORD has established Zion,29 and in her his afflicted people will find refuge.30"
