You who bring good tidings1 to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem,a2 lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, "Here is your God!"310
See, the Sovereign LORD comes4 with power,5 and his arm6 rules7 for him. See, his reward8 is with him, and his recompense accompanies him.
He tends his flock like a shepherd:9 He gathers the lambs in his arms10 and carries them close to his heart;11 he gently leads12 those that have young.1312
Who has measured the waters14 in the hollow of his hand,15 or with the breadth of his hand marked off the heavens?16 Who has held the dust of the earth in a basket, or weighed the mountains on the scales and the hills in a balance?1713
Who has understood the mindb18 of the LORD, or instructed him as his counselor?1914
Whom did the LORD consult to enlighten him, and who taught him the right way? Who was it that taught him knowledge20 or showed him the path of understanding?2115
Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket; they are regarded as dust on the scales;22 he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.2316
Lebanon24 is not sufficient for altar fires, nor its animals25 enough for burnt offerings.
Before him all the nations26 are as nothing;27 they are regarded by him as worthless and less than nothing.2818
To whom, then, will you compare God?29 What image30 will you compare him to?
As for an idol,31 a craftsman casts it, and a goldsmith32 overlays it with gold33 and fashions silver chains for it.
A man too poor to present such an offering selects wood34 that will not rot. He looks for a skilled craftsman to set up an idol35 that will not topple.3621
Do you not know? Have you not heard?37 Has it not been told38 you from the beginning?39 Have you not understood40 since the earth was founded?4122
He sits enthroned42 above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers.43 He stretches out the heavens44 like a canopy,45 and spreads them out like a tent46 to live in.4723
He brings princes48 to naught and reduces the rulers of this world to nothing.4924
No sooner are they planted, no sooner are they sown, no sooner do they take root50 in the ground, than he blows51 on them and they wither,52 and a whirlwind sweeps them away like chaff.5325
"To whom will you compare me?54 Or who is my equal?" says the Holy One.5526
Lift your eyes and look to the heavens:56 Who created57 all these? He who brings out the starry host58 one by one, and calls them each by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength,59 not one of them is missing.6027
Why do you say, O Jacob, and complain, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD; my cause is disregarded by my God"?6128
Do you not know? Have you not heard?62 The LORD is the everlasting63 God, the Creator64 of the ends of the earth.65 He will not grow tired or weary,66 and his understanding no one can fathom.6729
He gives strength68 to the weary69 and increases the power of the weak.
Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men70 stumble and fall;7131
but those who hope72 in the LORD will renew their strength.73 They will soar on wings like eagles;74 they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.75
