But man dies and is laid low;1 he breathes his last and is no more.2
As water disappears from the sea or a riverbed becomes parched and dry,3
so man lies down and does not rise;4 till the heavens are no more,5 men will not awake or be roused from their sleep.6
"If only you would hide me in the grave7 and conceal me till your anger has passed!8 If only you would set me a time and then remember9 me!10
If a man dies, will he live again? All the days of my hard service11 I will wait for my renewal12 to come.
