1not returning evil for evil or 2insult for insult, but agiving a 3blessing instead ; for 4you were called for the very purpose that you might 5inherit a blessing.

For, "6THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS, MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT.

"7HE MUST TURN AWAY FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD ; HE MUST SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT.

"8FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS, AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER, BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL."

9Who is bthere to harm you if you prove zealous for what is good ?

But even if you should 10suffer for the sake of righteousness, 11you care blessed. 12AND DO NOT FEAR THEIR dINTIMIDATION, AND DO NOT BE TROUBLED,

but esanctify 13Christ as Lord in your hearts, always being ready 14to make a fdefense to everyone who asks you to give an account for the 15hope that is in you, yet 16with gentleness and g17reverence ;

hand keep a 18good conscience so that in the thing in which 19you are slandered, those who revile your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.

For 20it is better, 21if iGod should will it so, that you suffer for doing what is right rather than for doing what is wrong.

For 22Christ also died for sins 23once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might 24bring us to God, having been put to death 25in the flesh, but made alive 26in the jspirit ;

in kwhich also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison,
