1Therefore, havingthesepromises, 1beloved, 2let us cleanseourselves from alldefilement of flesh and spirit, perfectingholiness in the fear of God.
23Makeroom for us in your hearts; we wrongednoone, we corruptednoone, we tookadvantage of noone.
I do not speak to condemn you, for I have said4before that you are 5in our hearts to dietogether and to livetogether.
4Great is my 6confidenceain you; great is my 7boasting on your behalf. I am filled with 8comfort; I am overflowing with 9joy in all our affliction.
For even when we came into 10Macedonia our fleshhadnorest, but we were 11afflicted on every side: 12conflictswithout, fearswithin.
But 13God, who comforts the bdepressed, 14comforted us by the coming of 15Titus;
and not only by his coming, but also by the comfort with which he was comforted in you, as he reported to us your longing, your mourning, your zeal for me; so that I rejoiced even more.
For though I 16caused you sorrow by my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it-for I see that that lettercaused you sorrow, thoughonly for a while -
I nowrejoice, not that you were madesorrowful, but that you were madesorrowful to the point of repentance; for you were madesorrowfulaccording to the will of God, so that you might not sufferloss in anythingcthrough us.
For the sorrow that is according to the will of Godproduces a 17repentancedwithoutregret, leading to salvation, but the sorrow of the worldproducesdeath.
For beholdwhatearnestnessthisverything, thisegodlysorrow, has produced in you: whatvindication of yourselves, whatindignation, whatfear, what18longing, whatzeal, what19avenging of wrong! In everything you 20demonstratedyourselves to be innocent in the matter.
12Soalthough21I wrote to you, it was not for the sake of 22the offendernor for the sake of the one offended, but that your earnestness on our behalf might be madeknown to you in the sight of God.
For thisreason we have been 23comforted. And besides our comfort, we rejoicedevenmuchmore for the joy of 24Titus,because his 25spirit has been refreshed by you all.
For if in anything I have 26boasted to him about you, I was not put to shame; but as we spokeallthings to you in truth, soalso our boastingbefore27Titusproved to be the truth.
His faffectionaboundsall the moretoward you, as he remembers the 28obedience of you all, how you received him with 29fear and trembling.
I rejoice that in everything30I haveconfidence in you.
