11In the thirdmonth after the sons of Israel had gone out of the land of Egypt, aon that very day they came into the wilderness of 2Sinai.
2
When they set out from 3Rephidim, they came to the wilderness of Sinai and camped in the wilderness ; and thereIsraelcamped in front of 4the mountain.
3Moseswent up to God, and 5the LORDcalled to him from the mountain, saying, "Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the sons of Israel :
4
'6You yourselves have seenwhat I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on 7eagles'wings, and brought you to Myself.
5'Now then, 8if you will indeedobey My voice and 9keep My covenant, then you shall be 10My bown possessionamongall the peoples, for 11all the earth is Mine;
6
and you shall be to Me 12a kingdom of priests and 13a holynation.' These are the words that you shall speak to the sons of Israel."
714So Mosescame and called the elders of the people, and setbefore them allthesewordswhich the LORD had commanded him.
815All the peopleansweredtogether and said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do !" And Mosesbroughtback the words of the people to the LORD.
9
The LORDsaid to Moses, "Behold, I will come to you in 16a thickcloud, so that the 17people may hear when I speak with you and may alsobelieve in you forever." Then Mosestold the words of the people to the LORD.
10
The LORD also said to Moses, "Go to the people and 18consecrate them today and tomorrow, and let them 19wash their garments ;
11
and let them be ready for the thirdday, for on 20the thirdday the LORD will comedown on MountSinai in the sight of all the people.
12
"You shall setbounds for the peopleallaround, saying, 'cBeware that you do not go up on the mountain or touch the border of it; 21whoevertouches the mountain shall surely be put to death.
13'Nohand shall touch him, but 22he shall surely be stonedordshotthrough ; whetherbeastorman, he shall not live.' When the ram'shornsounds a longblast, they shall come up to 23the mountain."
14
So Moseswentdown from the mountain to the people and consecrated the people, and they washed their garments.
15
He said to the people, "Be ready for the thirdday ; do not gonear a woman."
1624So it came about on the thirdday, when it was morning, that there were ethunder and lightningflashes and a thickcloud upon the mountain and a veryloudtrumpetsound, so that all the peoplewho were in the camptrembled.
17
And Mosesbrought the people out of the camp to meetGod, and they stood at the ffoot of the mountain.
1825Now MountSinai was all in smokebecause the LORDdescended upon it 26in fire ; and its smokeascended like 27the smoke of a furnace, and 28the wholemountaingquakedviolently.
19
When the sound of the trumpetgrewlouder and louder, Mosesspoke and 29Godanswered him with hthunder.
2030The LORDcamedown on MountSinai, to the top of the mountain ; and the LORDcalledMoses to the top of the mountain, and Moseswent up.
21
Then the LORDspoke to Moses, "Godown, iwarn the people, so that 31they do not breakthrough to the LORD to gaze, and many of them jperish.
22"Also let the 32priests who comenear to the LORDconsecrate themselves, orelse the LORD will break out against them."
23Mosessaid to the LORD, "The peoplecannotcome up to MountSinai, for You kwarned us, saying, '33Setbounds about the mountain and consecrate it.' "
24
Then the LORDsaid to him, "lGodown and come up again, 34you and Aaron with you; but do not let the 35priests and the peoplebreakthrough to come up to the LORD, or He will breakforth upon them."
