Now it came about afterthesethings, that 1GodtestedAbraham, and said to him, "2Abraham !" And he said, "Here I am."

He said, "Takenow3your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of 4Moriah, and offer him there as a 5burntoffering on one of the mountains of which I will tell you."

So Abrahamroseearly in the morning and saddled his donkey, and tooktwo of his youngmen with him and Isaac his son ; and he splitwood for the burntoffering, and arose and went to the place of whichGod had told him.

On the thirddayAbrahamraised his eyes and saw the place from a distance.
5Abrahamsaid to his youngmen, "Stayhere with the donkey, and I and the lad will gooverthere ; and we will worship and return to you."
6Abrahamtook the wood of the burntoffering and 6laid it on Isaac his son, and he took in his hand the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together.
7Isaacspoke to Abraham his father and said, "My father !" And he said, "Here I am, my son." And he said, "Behold, the fire and the wood, but where is the 7lamb for the burntoffering ?"
8Abrahamsaid, "God will aprovide for Himself the lamb for the burntoffering, my son." So the two of them walked on together.

Then they came to 8the place of whichGod had told him; and Abrahambuilt9the altarthere and arranged the wood, and bound his sonIsaac and 10laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.
10Abrahamstretched out his hand and took the knife to slay his son.

But 11the angel of the LORDcalled to him from heaven and said, "Abraham, Abraham !" And he said, "Here I am."
12
He said, "Do not stretch out your handagainst the lad, and donothing to him; for now12I know that you bfearGod, since you have not withheld13your son, your only son, from Me."

Then Abrahamraised his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him a ramcaught in the thicket by his horns ; and Abrahamwent and took the ram and offered him up for a burntoffering in the place of his son.
14Abrahamcalled the name of that placecThe LORD Will Provide, as it is said to this day, "In the mount of the LORD14it will dbe provided."

Then the angel of the LORDcalled to Abraham a secondtime from heaven,
16
and said, "15By Myself I have sworn, declares the LORD, because you have donethisthing and have not withheld your son, your only son,
17indeed I will greatlybless you, and I will greatly16multiply your eseed as the stars of the heavens and as 17the sandwhich is on the seashore ; and 18your fseed shall possess the gate of gtheir enemies.

"19In your hseedall the nations of the earth shall ibe blessed, because you have 20obeyed My voice."
1921So Abrahamreturned to his youngmen, and they arose and wenttogether to Beersheba ; and Abrahamlived at Beersheba.

Now it came about afterthesethings, that it was toldAbraham, saying, "Behold, 22Milcahjalso has bornechildren to your brotherNahor :
21Uz his firstborn and Buz his brother and Kemuel the father of Aram22
and Chesed and Hazo and Pildash and Jidlaph and Bethuel."
23Bethuelkbecame the father of 23Rebekah ; theseeightMilcahbore to Nahor, Abraham'sbrother.

His concubine, whose name was Reumah, lalsoboreTebah and Gaham and Tahash and Maacah.
