The inscription of the chargeagainst Him aread, "1THE KING OF THE JEWS."

They crucifiedtworobbers with Him, one on His right and one on His left.

[bAnd the Scripture was fulfilled which says, "And He was numbered with transgressors."]
29Thosepassing by were churlingabuse at Him, 2wagging their heads, and saying, "Ha ! You who are going to 3destroy the temple and rebuild it in threedays,
30saveYourself, and comedown from the cross !"

In the sameway the chiefpriestsalso, along with the scribes, were mocking Him amongthemselves and saying, "4He savedothers ; dHe cannotsaveHimself.

"Let this Christ, 5the King of Israel, nowcomedown from the cross, so that we may see and believe !" 6Those who were crucified with Him were alsoinsulting Him.
337When the e8sixthhourcame, darknessffellover the wholelanduntil the g9ninthhour.

At the 10ninthhourJesuscried out with a loudvoice, "11ELOI, ELOI, LAMASABACHTHANI ?"which is translated, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"35
When some of the bystandersheard it, they began saying, "Behold, He is calling for Elijah."
36Someoneran and filled a sponge with sourwine, put it on a reed, and gave Him a drink, saying, "hLet us seewhetherElijah will come to take Him down."
3712And Jesusuttered a loudcry, and breathed His last.
3813And the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom.
3914When the centurion, who was standingiright in front of Him, sawjthe way He breathed His last, he said, "Trulythisman was kthe Son of God !"
4015There were also some womenlooking on from a distance, amongwhom were MaryMagdalene, and Mary the mother of lJames16the mLess and Joses, and 17Salome.
41When He was in Galilee, they used to follow Him and n18minister to Him; and there were manyotherwomen who came up with Him to Jerusalem.
4219When evening had alreadycome, because it was 20the preparationday, that is, the daybefore the Sabbath,
43Joseph of Arimatheacame, a 21prominentmember of the Council, whohimself was 22waiting for the kingdom of God ; and he 23gathered up courage and went in beforePilate, and asked for the body of Jesus.
44Pilatewonderedif He was dead by thistime, and summoning the centurion, he questioned him as to whether He was alreadydead.

And ascertaining this from 24the centurion, he granted the body to Joseph.

Joseph bought a linencloth, took Him down, wrapped Him in the linencloth and laid Him in a tombwhich had beenhewn out in the rock ; and he rolled a stoneagainst the entrance of the tomb.
