That dayJesuswent out of 1the house and was sitting2by the sea.
And alargecrowdsgathered to Him, so3He got into a boat and satdown, and the wholecrowd was standing on the beach.
And He spokemanythings to them in 4parables, saying, "Behold, the sowerwent out to sow;4and as he sowed, some seeds fellbeside the road, and the birdscame and ate them up.5"Othersfell on the rocky places, where they did not havemuchsoil; and immediately they sprang up, because they hadnodepth of soil.6"But when the sun had risen, they were scorched; and because they hadnoroot, they witheredaway.7"Othersfellbamong the thorns, and the thornscame up and choked them out.8"And othersfell on the goodsoil and yielded a crop, some a 5hundredfold, somesixty, and somethirty.9"6He who hasears, clet him hear."
And the disciplescame and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"
11dJesus answered them, "7To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.12"8For whoeverhas, to him more shall be given, and he will have an abundance; but whoever does not have, evenwhat he has shall be takenaway from him.13"Therefore I speak to them in parables; because while 9seeing they do not see, and while hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.14"eIn their case the prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled, which says,'f10YOU WILL KEEP ON HEARING, gBUT WILL NOT UNDERSTAND;hYOU WILL KEEP ON SEEING, BUT WILL NOT PERCEIVE;1511FOR THE HEART OF THISPEOPLE HAS BECOMEDULL,WITH THEIR EARS THEY SCARCELYHEAR,AND THEY HAVE CLOSED THEIR EYES,OTHERWISE THEY WOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES,HEAR WITH THEIR EARS,AND UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART AND RETURN,AND I WOULD HEAL THEM.'16"12But blessed are your eyes, because they see; and your ears, because they hear.17"For truly I say to you that 13manyprophets and righteousmendesired to seewhat you see, and did not see it, and to hearwhat you hear, and did not hear it.
18"14Hearthen the parable of the sower.19"When anyonehears15the iword of the kingdom and does not understand it, 16the evil one comes and snatchesawaywhat has been sown in his heart. This is the one on whom seed was sownbeside the road.20"The one on whom seed was sown on the rocky places, this is the man who hears the word and immediatelyreceives it with joy;21yet he hasno firm root in himself, but is only temporary, and when afflictionorpersecutionarisesbecause of the jword, immediately he k17fallsaway.22"And the one on whom seed was sownamong the thorns, this is the man who hears the word, and the worry of 18the lworld and the 19deceitfulness of wealthchoke the word, and it becomesunfruitful.23"And the one on whom seed was sown on the goodsoil, this is the man who hears the word and understands it; whoindeedbearsfruit and bringsforth, some20a hundredfold, somesixty, and somethirty."
