Josué 16

1 La tierra entregada a la tribu de Efraín y a la tribu occidental de Manasés
La porción de tierra asignada a los descendientes de José se extendía desde el río Jordán, cerca de Jericó, en el oriente de los manantiales de Jericó, atravesaba el desierto y seguía por la zona montañosa de Betel.

2 De Betel (también llamada Luz),
iba hacia Atarot, en el territorio de los arquitas.

3 Descendía hacia el occidente, al territorio de los jafletitas, hasta Bet-horón de abajo, luego a Gezer y llegaba al mar Mediterráneo.

4 Esa fue la tierra asignada a las familias de Manasés y de Efraín, los hijos de José, para que fuera su hogar.

5 La tierra entregada a la tribu de Efraín
El siguiente territorio se le entregó a los clanes de la tribu de Efraín para que fuera su hogar:
el límite comenzaba en Atarot-adar, al oriente. De allí, iba a Bet-horón de arriba

6 y seguía hacia el mar Mediterráneo. Desde Micmetat, en el norte, el límite formaba una curva hacia el oriente y pasaba Taanat-silo, al oriente de Janoa.

7 De Janoa, giraba hacia el sur hasta Atarot y Naarat, tocaba Jericó y terminaba en el río Jordán.

8 Desde Tapúa, el límite se extendía hacia el occidente a lo largo del barranco de Caná y luego al mar Mediterráneo. Esa es la tierra asignada a los clanes de la tribu de Efraín para que fuera su hogar.

9 Además, algunas ciudades con sus aldeas vecinas en el territorio asignado a la media tribu de Manasés fueron separadas para la tribu de Efraín.

10 Los de Efraín, sin embargo, no expulsaron a los cananeos de la ciudad de Gezer, así que sus habitantes viven como esclavos entre el pueblo de Efraín hasta el día de hoy.

Chapter 16

The sons of Joseph.

- This and the following chapter should not be separated. They give the lots of Ephraim and Manasseh, the children of Joseph, who, next to Judah, were to have the post of honour, and therefore had the first and best portion in the northern part of Canaan, as Judah in the southern part. God's people now, as of old, suffer his enemies to remain. Blessed Lord, when will all ( 1 Corinthians. 15:26 ) thou alone canst do it. These settled boundaries may remind us, that our situation and provision in this life, as well as our future inheritance, are appointed by the only wise and righteous God, and we should be content with our portion, since he knows what is best for us, and all we have is more than we deserve.

INTRODUCTION TO JOSHUA 16

This chapter gives us an account of the lot of the children of Joseph, Ephraim, and the half tribe of Manasseh, one half having settled on the other side Jordan; and first the borders of the whole lot in general are given, Jos 16:1-4; and then the borders of the tribe of Ephraim in particular, Jos 16:4-8; and it is observed, that this tribe had besides separate cities among the children of Manasseh, and that there were some Canaanites, particularly in Gezer, not driven out by the Ephraimites, Jos 16:9,10.
