Psalm 127

CJB 1 A song of ascents. By Shlomo: Unless ADONAI builds the house, its builders work in vain. Unless ADONAI guards the city, the guard keeps watch in vain. NIV 1 Unless the LORD builds the house, its builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain. CJB 2 In vain do you get up early and put off going to bed, working hard to earn a living; for he provides for his beloved, even when they sleep. NIV 2 In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat-- for he grants sleep to those he loves. CJB 3 Children too are a gift from ADONAI; the fruit of the womb is a reward. NIV 3 Sons are a heritage from the LORD, children a reward from him. CJB 4 The children born when one is young. are like arrows in the hand of a warrior. NIV 4 Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. CJB 5 How blessed is the man who has filled his quiver with them; he will not have to be embarrassed when contending with foes at the city gate. NIV 5 Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.
