Psalm 129

GNT 1 Israel, tell us how your enemies have persecuted you ever since you were young. NIV 1 They have greatly oppressed me from my youth-- let Israel say-- GNT 2 "Ever since I was young, my enemies have persecuted me cruelly, but they have not overcome me. NIV 2 they have greatly oppressed me from my youth, but they have not gained the victory over me. GNT 3 They cut deep wounds in my back and made it like a plowed field. NIV 3 Plowmen have plowed my back and made their furrows long. GNT 4 But the Lord, the righteous one, has freed me from slavery." NIV 4 But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked. GNT 5 May everyone who hates Zion be defeated and driven back. NIV 5 May all who hate Zion be turned back in shame. GNT 6 May they all be like grass growing on the housetops, which dries up before it can grow; NIV 6 May they be like grass on the roof, which withers before it can grow; GNT 7 no one gathers it up or carries it away in bundles. NIV 7 with it the reaper cannot fill his hands, nor the one who gathers fill his arms. GNT 8 No one who passes by will say, "May the Lord bless you! We bless you in the name of the Lord." NIV 8 May those who pass by not say, "The blessing of the LORD be upon you; we bless you in the name of the LORD."
