Psalm 2

GNT 1 Why do the nations plan rebellion? Why do people make their useless plots? NIV 1 Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? GNT 2 Their kings revolt, their rulers plot together against the Lord and against the king he chose. NIV 2 The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. GNT 3 "Let us free ourselves from their rule," they say; "let us throw off their control." NIV 3 "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters." GNT 4 From his throne in heaven the Lord laughs and mocks their feeble plans. NIV 4 The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them. GNT 5 Then he warns them in anger and terrifies them with his fury. NIV 5 Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, GNT 6 "On Zion, my sacred hill," he says, "I have installed my king." NIV 6 "I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill." GNT 7 "I will announce," says the king, "what the Lord has declared. He said to me: "You are my son; today I have become your father. NIV 7 I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, "You are my Son; today I have become your Father. GNT 8 Ask, and I will give you all the nations; the whole earth will be yours. NIV 8 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession. GNT 9 You will break them with an iron rod; you will shatter them in pieces like a clay pot.' " NIV 9 You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery." GNT 10 Now listen to this warning, you kings; learn this lesson, you rulers of the world: NIV 10 Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth. GNT 11 Serve the Lord with fear; tremble NIV 11 Serve the LORD with fear and rejoice with trembling. GNT 12 and bow down to him; or else his anger will be quickly aroused, and you will suddenly die. Happy are all who go to him for protection. NIV 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry and you be destroyed in your way, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
