NIV 3 For my soul is full of trouble and my life draws near the grave. CEB 4 I am considered as one of those plummeting into the pit. I am like those who are beyond help, NIV 4 I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like a man without strength. CEB 5 drifting among the dead, lying in the grave, like dead bodies— those you don't remember anymore, those who are cut off from your power. NIV 5 I am set apart with the dead, like the slain who lie in the grave, whom you remember no more, who are cut off from your care. CEB 6 You placed me down in the deepest pit, in places dark and deep. NIV 6 You have put me in the lowest pit, in the darkest depths. CEB 7 Your anger smothers me; you subdue me with it, wave after wave. Selah NIV 7 Your wrath lies heavily upon me; you have overwhelmed me with all your waves. "Selah" CEB 8 You've made my friends distant. You've made me disgusting to them. I can't escape. I'm trapped! NIV 8 You have taken from me my closest friends and have made me repulsive to them. I am confined and cannot escape; CEB 9 My eyes are tired of looking at my suffering. I've been calling out to you every day, LORD— I've had my hands outstretched to you! NIV 9 my eyes are dim with grief. I call to you, O LORD, every day; I spread out my hands to you. CEB 10 Do you work wonders for the dead? Do ghosts rise up and give you thanks? Selah NIV 10 Do you show your wonders to the dead? Do those who are dead rise up and praise you? "Selah" CEB 11 Is your faithful love proclaimed in the grave, your faithfulness in the underworld? NIV 11 Is your love declared in the grave, your faithfulness in Destruction ? CEB 12 Are your wonders known in the land of darkness, your righteousness in the land of oblivion? NIV 12 Are your wonders known in the place of darkness, or your righteous deeds in the land of oblivion? CEB 13 But I cry out to you, LORD! My prayer meets youfirst thing in the morning! NIV 13 But I cry to you for help, O LORD; in the morning my prayer comes before you. CEB 14 Why do you reject my very being, LORD? Why do you hide your face from me? NIV 14 Why, O LORD, do you reject me and hide your face from me? CEB 15 Since I was young I've been afflicted, I've been dying. I've endured your terrors. I'm lifeless. NIV 15 From my youth I have been afflicted and close to death; I have suffered your terrors and am in despair. CEB 16 Your fiery anger has overwhelmed me; your terrors have destroyed me. NIV 16 Your wrath has swept over me; your terrors have destroyed me. CEB 17 They surround me all day long like water; they engulf me completely. NIV 17 All day long they surround me like a flood; they have completely engulfed me. CEB 18 You've made my loved ones and companions distant. My only friend is darkness.
