Deuternomium 11:8-18

8 Darum sollt ihr alle die Gebote halten, die ich dir heute gebiete, auf daß ihr gestärkt werdet, hineinzukommen und das Land einzunehmen, dahin ihr ziehet, daß ihr's einnehmet;

9 und daß du lange lebest in dem Lande, das der HERR euren Vätern geschworen hat ihnen zu geben und ihrem Samen, ein Land, darin Milch und Honig fließt.

10 Denn das Land, da du hin kommst, ist nicht wie Ägyptenland, davon ihr ausgezogen seid, da du deinen Samen säen und selbst tränken mußtest wie einen Kohlgarten;

11 sondern es hat Berge und Auen, die der Regen vom Himmel tränkt,

12 auf welch Land der HERR, dein Gott, acht hat und die Augen des HERRN, deines Gottes, immerdar sehen, von Anfang des Jahres bis ans Ende.

13 Werdet ihr nun meine Gebote hören, die ich euch gebiete, daß ihr den HERRN, euren Gott, liebet und ihm dienet von ganzem Herzen und von ganzer Seele,

14 so will ich eurem Land Regen geben zu seiner Zeit, Frühregen und Spätregen, daß du einsammelst dein Getreide, deinen Most und dein Öl,

15 und will deinem Vieh Gras geben auf deinem Felde, daß ihr esset und satt werdet.

16 Hütet euch aber, daß sich euer Herz nicht überreden lasse, daß ihr abweichet und dienet andern Göttern und betet sie an,

17 und daß dann der Zorn des HERRN ergrimme über euch und schließe den Himmel zu, daß kein Regen komme und die Erde ihr Gewächs nicht gebe und ihr bald umkommt von dem guten Lande, das euch der HERR gegeben hat.

18 So fasset nun diese Worte zu Herzen und in eure Seele und bindet sie zum Zeichen auf eure Hand, daß sie ein Denkmal vor euren Augen seien.

INTRODUCTION TO DEUTERONOMY 11

In this chapter, the exhortation to love the Lord, and keep his commands, is repeated and urged again and again from various considerations; as not only from the chastisement of Pharaoh and the wicked Egyptians, but of such Israelites who offended the Lord, and transgressed his law, De 12:1-7, from the goodness and excellency of the land they were going to inherit, De 11:8-11, from the blessing of rain that would come upon it, and be productive of all good things for man and beast, in case of obedience, and a restraint of it in case of disobedience, De 11:12-17, from the continuance of them and their offspring in the land, should they be careful to observe the commands themselves, and teach them their children, De 11:18-21, and from the extensiveness of their conquests and dominions, De 11:22-25 and from the different issue and effects of their conduct and behaviour, a blessing upon them if obedient, but a curse if disobedient, De 11:26-28 and the chapter is concluded with an exhortation to pronounce the blessing on Mount Gerizim, and the curse on Mount Ebal; the situation of which places is described when they should come into the land of Canaan, of which they are assured, De 11:29-32.
