He stilled the storm1 to a whisper; the waves2 of the sea were hushed.330
They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them4 to their desired haven.
Let them give thanks5 to the LORD for his unfailing love6 and his wonderful deeds7 for men.
Let them exalt8 him in the assembly9 of the people and praise him in the council of the elders.
He turned rivers into a desert,10 flowing springs11 into thirsty ground,
and fruitful land into a salt waste,12 because of the wickedness of those who lived there.
He turned the desert into pools of water13 and the parched ground into flowing springs;1436
there he brought the hungry to live, and they founded a city where they could settle.
They sowed fields and planted vineyards15 that yielded a fruitful harvest;
he blessed them, and their numbers greatly increased,16 and he did not let their herds diminish.1739
Then their numbers decreased,18 and they were humbled19 by oppression, calamity and sorrow;
