"Hear this, you priests! Pay attention, you Israelites! Listen, royal house! This judgment1 is against you: You have been a snare2 at Mizpah, a net3 spread out on Tabor.
The rebels are deep in slaughter.4 I will discipline all of them.53
I know all about Ephraim; Israel is not hidden6 from me. Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution; Israel is corrupt.74
"Their deeds do not permit them to return8 to their God. A spirit of prostitution9 is in their heart; they do not acknowledge10 the LORD.
Israel's arrogance testifies11 against them; the Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble12 in their sin; Judah also stumbles with them.136
When they go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD,14 they will not find him; he has withdrawn15 himself from them.
They are unfaithful16 to the LORD; they give birth to illegitimate17 children. When they celebrate their New Moon feasts,18 he will devoura19 their fields.
"Sound the trumpet20 in Gibeah,21 the horn in Ramah.22 Raise the battle cry in Beth Avenb;23 lead on, Benjamin.
Ephraim will be laid waste24 on the day of reckoning.25 Among the tribes of Israel I proclaim what is certain.2610
Judah's leaders are like those who move boundary stones.27 I will pour out my wrath28 on them like a flood of water.
Ephraim is oppressed, trampled in judgment, intent on pursuing idols.c2912
I am like a moth30 to Ephraim, like rot31 to the people of Judah.
"When Ephraim32 saw his sickness, and Judah his sores, then Ephraim turned to Assyria,33 and sent to the great king for help.34 But he is not able to cure35 you, not able to heal your sores.3614
For I will be like a lion37 to Ephraim, like a great lion to Judah. I will tear them to pieces38 and go away; I will carry them off, with no one to rescue them.3915
Then I will return to my lair40 until they have borne their guilt41 and seek my face42-- in their misery43 they will earnestly seek me.44"
