Deuteronomy 2:22 Meaning and Commentary

Deuteronomy 2:22

As he did to the children of Esau which dwelt in Seir
He did the like things for them as he did for the Ammonites:

when he destroyed the Horims from before them:
which is repeated from ( Deuteronomy 2:12 ) , other instances of the like kind being here recited:

and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead, even unto this day;
(See Gill on Deuteronomy 2:12).

Deuteronomy 2:22 In-Context

20 (That also is accounted a land of Rephaim: Rephaim lived therein before; but the Ammonites call them Zamzummim,
21 a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakim; but Yahweh destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place;
22 as he did for the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites from before them; and they succeeded them, and lived in their place even to this day:
23 and the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and lived in their place.)
24 Rise you up, take your journey, and pass over the valley of the Arnon: behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle.
