What Is God's Greatest Work?

One of my favorite verses in the entire Bible is Ephesians 2:10. My wife and I run the special needs ministry at our church and this verse is our theme verse. I especially love the way it reads in the New Living Translation.

Your salvation was the catalyst to propel you to the place God wants you to get to. Without your salvation you don’t get to that place. Your salvation is not only about transformation, it is also about activation. God transforms you so you can accomplish everything he has planned for you. God is not only great at creating the plan. He is even better at executing the plan.

Let me put it to you in this fashion. You were born to accomplish your purpose. You were born again to accomplish God’s purpose. The moment you got saved, what shifted was you went from your agenda being primary in your life, to his agenda being primary in your life.

One of the greatest examples of God’s work is the Apostle Paul. When we are introduced to him, we find him having Christians thrown in jail and even killed. If you remember when Stephen was stoned in Acts 7-8 there is one thing that stands out:

It continues from there.

This was Saul. He was feared among the believers at that time, and no one wanted to mess with him. However all that changed when God made him new. You can read about Saul’s conversion in Acts 9. There is one thing to highlight in that chapter.

While Saul was fighting against the gospel trying to destroy the church, God was thinking about the masterpiece Saul would become. This is not just true of Saul, it is what he was thinking about for me and you as well. Saul, or Paul, went on and instead of destroying the church, he became a great builder of the church. God created him anew in Christ Jesus so he could proclaim the message of the gospel. This is another one of those only-God realities.

If there is one thing to take from this article it is simply this: You are a masterpiece not because you think you are or because you feel like you are. You are a masterpiece because God says you are. Don’t take that lightly and don’t take that arrogantly. I would encourage you to humbly recognize each day that God is working on you and he is making you more and more like Jesus every day. When he is finished, he will hold you up as his greatest work because that is what you are.
