Ver. 20-28. But Amaziah would not hear
What the king of Israel advised him to, not to meddle to his hurt;

for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand [of their
enemies];
Amaziah and his army into the hands of Joash and his; this was the will of God, and was brought about by his providence; and that it might be, Amaziah was given up to blindness and hardness of heart, as a punishment of his idolatry:

because they sought after the gods of Edom;

18 Y Joás, rey de Israel, envió mensaje a Amasías, rey de Judá, diciendo: El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió a decir al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo: "Da tu hija por mujer a mi hijo." Pero pasó una fiera que estaba en el Líbano, y pisoteó el cardo.

19 Tú dijiste: "He aquí, he derrotado a Edom"; y tu corazón se ha envanecido para gloriarte. Quédate ahora en tu casa; ¿por qué quieres provocar el mal, de modo que caigas tú y Judá contigo?

20 Pero Amasías no quiso escuchar, porque esto venía de Dios, para entregarlos en mano de Joás, pues ellos habían buscado los dioses de Edom.

21 Y subió Joás, rey de Israel, y él y Amasías, rey de Judá, se enfrentaron en Bet-semes, que pertenece a Judá.

22 Y Judá fue derrotado por Israel, y huyeron, cada uno a su tienda.
