Genesis 38:10

And the thing which he did displeased the Lord
Being done out of envy to his brother, and through want of affection to the memory of his name; and it may be out of covetousness to get his estate into his own hands, and especially as it frustrated the end of such an usage of marrying a brother's wife; which appears to be according to the will of God, since it afterwards became a known law of his; and it was the more displeasing, as it was not only a check upon the multiplication of Abraham's seed as promised, but since the Messiah was to come from Judah. This was doing all to hinder it that lay in his power: wherefore he slew him also;
in like manner as he had slain his brother, ( Genesis 38:7 ) .

8 Entonces Judá dijo a Onán: Llégate a la mujer de tu hermano, y cumple con ella tu deber como cuñado, y levanta descendencia a tu hermano.

9 Y Onán sabía que la descendencia no sería suya; y acontecía que cuando se llegaba a la mujer de su hermano, derramaba su semen en tierra para no dar descendencia a su hermano.

10 Pero lo que hacía era malo ante los ojos del SEÑOR; y también a él le quitó la vida.

11 Entonces Judá dijo a su nuera Tamar: Quédate viuda en casa de tu padre hasta que crezca mi hijo Sela; pues pensaba: Temo que él muera también como sus hermanos. Así que Tamar se fue y se quedó en casa de su padre.

12 Pasaron muchos días y murió la hija de Súa, mujer de Judá. Y pasado el duelo, Judá subió a los trasquiladores de sus ovejas en Timnat, él y su amigo Hira adulamita.
