Psalm 132:2

Listen to Psalm 132:2

Psalm 132:2 Meaning and Commentary

Psalms 132:2

How he sware unto the Lord, [and] vowed unto the mighty [God]
of Jacob.
] Whom Jacob called so, ( Genesis 49:24 ) ; and to whom he vowed a vow, and is the first we read of that did make one, and it was concerning the house of God, ( Genesis 28:17 Genesis 28:20 Genesis 28:21 ) ; and who had an experience of the might and power of God in protecting and defending him from his brother Esau: of this oath and vow of David no mention is made elsewhere, but no doubt they were made; see ( Psalms 119:106 ) ; of the Messiah's swearing, though upon another account, to whom this may be applied, see ( Isaiah 45:23 ) ( Revelation 10:1 Revelation 10:2 Revelation 10:5 Revelation 10:6 ) .

Psalm 132:2 In-Context

1 A song of ascents: ADONAI, remember in David's favor all the hardships he endured,
2 how he swore to ADONAI, vowed to the Mighty One of Ya'akov,
3 "I will not enter the house where I live or get into my bed,
4 I will not allow myself to sleep or even close my eyes,
5 until I find a place for ADONAI, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Ya'akov."
