CHAPTER 42

Rooms for the Priests (42:1–20)

1–14 Rooms for the priests are described. The priests were allowed to eat parts of certain offerings and these rooms provided them with a place to eat. In verse 13, Ezekiel mentions grain offerings (see Leviticus 2:1–16) together with the sin and guilt offerings, all of which the priests were allowed to eat (Leviticus 7:5–10,28–36).

15–20 The angel next measures the outer wall, each side of which is five hundred cubits93 in length; this makes the temple area approximately 250 meters square. The purpose of the wall was to separate the holy from the common (verse 20); nothing ritually unclean was permitted to come inside the temple precincts.94
