9:1-18 Chapters 8–10 raise important questions. Paul’s primary test in dealing with these issues was in determining what was best for the church and other believers. He subordinated a number of legitimate possibilities—all good in themselves—in order to do that. This was a reversal of attitudes prevalent in the Corinthian church where members were looking to their own good and not asking about the good of others or the good of the body of Christ.

9:19-24 Paul was no chameleon, changing colors to adapt to different environments. His message in all contexts was the same, but his manner of communication differed according to the understandings of his audience.
