9:15 The “supporting terraces” refers literally to “the Millo” or “Filling.” It was probably a system of terraced embankments on the enormous gulf between the city of David on the southeast hill and the Orphel “bulge” to the northeast, east of Solomon’s palace. This was likely the site of the barracks of the Praetorian Guard of professional soldiers so important to the Davidic dynasty.
