16:5 Some commentators assert that the judge who will sit on the throne “in the tent of David” was Hezekiah, who would come to the aid of the Moabites during their time of oppression by the Assyrians. Since this Davidic ruler will “execute justice” and “will sit on [the throne] faithfully,” his characteristics coincide with those of the Davidic Messiah in 9:6-7 (2Sm 7:12-16). Thus, Isaiah was pointing to someone much greater than Hezekiah.
