13:2-17 Only John describes the foot washing; only the other Gospels present Jesus’s words over the bread and the cup. But both fit neatly together as part of the same meal, a Jewish Passover feast, which Jesus reinterpreted as symbolizing his upcoming, self-giving death for the sins of humanity.
