TWISTED SCRIPTURE | Leviticus 17:10-14 |
The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society, also known as Jehovah’s Witnesses, use these verses as their basis for not allowing blood transfusions. They understand the eating of blood to mean any ingestion or infusion of blood into the human system. The context of this passage, however, does not deal with the issues the Jehovah’s Witnesses claim. The eating of blood was prohibited by this passage because blood was central to sacrifices and atonement for sin. With the death and resurrection of Christ, those sacrifices are no longer necessary.
