The Acts of the Apostles

The Book of Acts is an exciting and powerful portrait of the history of the early Christian church.

From the upper room to the Roman capital, this narrative chronicles the spread of the gospel. Without it we would know little about the apostles and their mission to the Jewish and Gentile world.

Acts follows the activities of two apostles in particular: Peter and Paul. For this reason it has been called "the Acts of the Apostles." The book might better be named "The Acts of the Holy Spirit," however, for the Spirit is the one who provides the power and motivation for the missionary activity of the apostles. Through Acts we follow the unhindered movement of the gospel around the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. We move from Jerusalem to Samaria, from Palestine to Asia, from Greece to Rome. By the time Acts ends, the gospel has been proclaimed throughout the Roman world with miraculous success.
