The "widows" here are the widows dependent on her and who are considered as candidates to be enrolled in the list. Let her relieve them (eparkeitw autai). Present passive imperative (in prohibition mh) of barew, old verb (baro, burden), Pauline word ( 2 Corinthians 1:8 ). That are widows indeed (tai ontw chrai). Dative case with eparkesh (first aorist active subjunctive with ina, final clause). See verse 2 Corinthians 3 for this use of ontw with chrai "the qualified and enrolled widows."
