Coming after me (opisw mou ercomeno). No article (o) in Aleph B. John as the forerunner of the Messiah has preceded him in time, but not in rank as he instantly adds. The latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose (ou ouk eimi axio ina lusw autou ton imanta tou upodhmato). Literally, "of whom I am not worthy that I unloose the latchet (see Mark 1:7 for ima) of his sandal (see Matthew 3:11 for upodhma, bound under the foot)." Only use of axio with ina in John, though used by Paul in this saying of the Baptist ( Acts 13:25 ), ikano ina in Matthew 3:8 , but ikano lusai (aorist active infinitive instead of lusw, aorist active subjunctive) in Mark 1:7 ( Luke 3:16 ) and bastasai in Matthew 3:11 .
