As it were great drops of blood (wsei qromboi aimato). Thick, clotted blood. An old word (qromboi) common in medical works, but here only in the N.T. This passage (verses Matthew 43 44) is absent from some ancient documents. Aristotle speaks of a bloody sweat as does Theophrastus.
