Ancient people of the promised land (Gn 10:15-18; 15:20; Jos 1:4); Abraham lived among them (Gn 23); Esau married them (26:34; 27:46; 36:2). Formerly lived in the hill country (Nm 13:29; Jos 9:1; 11:3; 12:8); dispossessed by Israel (Ex 23:23; Dt 7:1; 20:17; Jos 3:10); some remained (Jdg 3:5; 1Kg 9:20-21); fought alongside Israel (1Sm 26:6).
