SOLOMON
Son of David and Bathsheba; third king of Israel (2Sm 12:24; 1Kg 1:30-40). Asked for wisdom (1 Kg 3:5-15); knew many proverbs and songs (4:32; Pss 72; 127; Pr 1:1; 10:1; 25:1; Sg 1:1); wisdom demonstrated in child dispute (1Kg 3:16-28) and the visit of the Queen of Sheba (10:1-13). Built and dedicated the temple (1Kg 5–8). Accumulated vast wealth (9:26-28; 10:26-29); had many wives and concubines, who influenced him toward idolatry (11:1-8).
