And the son of Shammai was Maon: and Maon was the father of Bethzur.

- Beth-zur was situated in the tribe of Judah, twenty miles south from Jerusalem, towards Hebron, according to Eusebius. It was fortified by Rehoboam, (2 Ch 11:7 and was a fortress of great consequence, principally in the time of the Maccabees
