1 Yàsā sān shí liù nián , Yǐsèliè wáng bā shā shang lái gōngjī Yóudà , xiū zhú Lāmǎ , bù xǔ rén cóng Yóudà wáng Yàsā nàli chūrù .

2 Yúshì Yàsā cóng Yēhéhuá diàn hé wánggōng de fǔ kù lǐ ná chū jīn yín lái , sòng yǔ zhù Dàmǎsè de Yàlán wáng biàn Hādá , shuō ,

3 Nǐ fù céng yǔ wǒ fù lì yuē , wǒ yǔ nǐ yĕ yào lì yuē . xiànzaì wǒ jiāng jīn yín sòng gĕi nǐ , qiú nǐ feìdiào nǐ yǔ Yǐsèliè wáng bā shā suǒ lì de yuē , shǐ tā líkāi wǒ .

4 Biàn Hādá tīng cóng Yàsā wáng de huà , paì jūnzhǎng qù gōngjī Yǐsèliè de chéngyì . tāmen jiù gōng pò yǐ yún , dàn , Yàbó mǎ yīn , hé Náfútālì yīqiè de jī huò chéng .

5 Bā shā tīngjian jiù tíng gōng , bù xiū zhú Lāmǎ le .

6 Yúshì Yàsā wáng shuaìlǐng Yóudà zhòngrén , jiāng bā shā xiū zhú Lāmǎ suǒ yòng de shítou , mùtou dōu yùn qù , yòng yǐ xiū zhú Jiābā hé Mǐsībā .

7 Nàshí , xiān jiàn Hānání lái jiàn Yóudà wáng Yàsā , duì tā shuō , yīn nǐ yǎng laì Yàlán wáng , méiyǒu yǎng laì Yēhéhuá nǐde shén , suǒyǐ Yàlán wáng de jūn bīng tuōlí le nǐde shǒu .

8 Gǔshí rén , Lùbǐ rén de jūnduì bú shì shén dà ma . zhàn chē mǎ bīng bú shì jí duō ma . zhǐ yīn nǐ yǎng laì Yēhéhuá , tā biàn jiāng tāmen jiāo zaì nǐ shǒu lǐ .

9 Yēhéhuá de yǎnmù biàn chá quán dì , yào xiǎn dà néng bāngzhu xiàng tā xīn cún chéngshí de rén . nǐ zhè shì xíng dé yúmeì . cǐ hòu , nǐ bì yǒu zhēng zhàn de shì .

10 Yàsā yīncǐ nǎohèn xiān jiàn , jiāng tā qiú zaì jiānlǐ . nàshí Yàsā yĕ nüè dāi yī xiē rénmín .

11 Yàsā suǒ xíng de shì , zì sāi zhì zhōng dōu xiĕ zaì Yóudà hé Yǐsèliè zhū wáng jì shàng .

12 Yàsā zuò wáng sān shí jiǔ nián , tā jiǎo shàng yǒu bìng , érqiĕ shén zhòng . bìng de shíhou méiyǒu qiú Yēhéhuá , zhǐ qiú yīshēng .

13 Tā zuò wáng sì shí yī nián ér sǐ , yǔ tā lièzǔ tóng shuì ,

14 Zàng zaì Dàwèi chéng zìjǐ suǒ zaó de fùnmù lǐ , fàng zaì chuáng shàng , qí chuáng duī mǎn gèyàng xīnxiāng de xiāngliào , jiù shì àn zuò xiāng de zuòfǎ tiaóhe de xiāngliào , yòu wèi tā shāo le xǔduō de wùjiàn .

Chapter 16

Asa seeks the aid of the Syrians, His death.

- A plain and faithful reproof was given to Asa by a prophet of the Lord, for making a league with Syria. God is displeased when he is distrusted, and when an arm of flesh is relied on, more than his power and goodness. It is foolish to lean on a broken reed, when we have the Rock of ages to rely upon. To convince Asa of his folly, the prophet shows that he, of all men, had no reason to distrust God, who had found him such a powerful Helper. The many experiences we have had of the goodness of God to us, aggravate our distrust of him. But see how deceitful our hearts are! we trust in God when we have nothing else to trust to, when need drives us to him; but when we have other things to stay on, we are apt to depend too much on them. Observe Asa's displeasure at this reproof. What is man, when God leaves him to himself! He that abused his power for persecuting God's prophet, was left to himself, to abuse it further for crushing his own subjects. Two years before he died, Asa was diseased in his feet. Making use of physicians was his duty; but trusting to them, and expecting that from them which was to be had from God only, were his sin and folly. In all conflicts and sufferings we need especially to look to our own hearts, that they may be perfect towards God, by faith, patience, and obedience.

Baasha coming up against Judah, and building Ramah, Asa made a league with the king of Syria, and hired him to make a diversion in his favour, and cause Baasha to leave off building, which succeeded, 2Ch 16:1-6, for which he was reproved by a prophet of the Lord, with whom he was so angry for it as to put him in prison, and oppress others, 2Ch 16:7,10, and the chapter is closed with an account of his disease and conduct under it, and of his death and burial, 2Ch 16:11-14.
