1 Tuīluó wáng Xīlán , píng sù aì Dàwèi . tā tīngjian Yǐsèliè rén gāo Suǒluómén , jiēxù tā fùqin zuò wáng , jiù chāiqiǎn chénpú lái jiàn tā .

2 Suǒluómén yĕ chāiqiǎn rén qù jiàn Xīlán , shuō ,

3 Nǐ zhīdào wǒ fùqin Dàwèi yīn sìwéi de zhēng zhàn , bùnéng wèi Yēhéhuá tā shén de míng jiàn diàn , zhí dĕng dào Yēhéhuá shǐ chóudí dōu fú zaì tā jiǎo xià .

4 Xiànzaì Yēhéhuá wǒde shén shǐ wǒ sìwéi píngān , méiyǒu chóudí , méiyǒu zāihuò .

5 Wǒ déng yì yào wèi Yēhéhuá wǒ shén de míng jiàn diàn , shì zhào Yēhéhuá yīngxǔ wǒ fùqin Dàwèi de huà shuō , wǒ bì shǐ nǐ érzi jiēxù nǐ zuò nǐde wèi , tā bì wèi wǒde míng jiàn diàn .

6 Suǒyǐ qiú nǐ fēnfu nǐde púrén zaì Lìbānèn wèi wǒ kǎn fá xiāng bǎi mù , wǒde púrén yĕ bì bāngzhu tāmen , wǒ bì zhào nǐ suǒ déng de , gĕi nǐ púrén de gōngjià . yīnwei nǐ zhīdào , zaì wǒmen zhōngjiān méiyǒu rén xiàng Xīdùn rén shàn yú kǎn fá shùmù .

7 Xīlán tīngjian Suǒluómén de huà , jiù shén xǐyuè , shuō , jīnrì yīngdāng chēngsòng Yēhéhuá . yīn tā cìgĕi Dàwèi yī gè yǒu zhìhuì de érzi , zhìlǐ zhè zhòngduō de mín .

8 Xīlán dǎfa rén qù jiàn Suǒluómén , shuō , nǐ chāiqiǎn rén xiàng wǒ suǒ tí de nà shì , wǒ dōu tīngjian le . lún dào xiāng bǎi mù hé sōng mù , wǒ bì zhào nǐde xīnyuàn ér xíng .

9 Wǒde púrén bìjiāng zhè mù liào cóng Lìbānèn yùn dào hǎi lǐ , zhá chéng fá zǐ , fú hǎi yùn dào nǐ suǒ zhǐ déng wǒde dìfang , zaì nàli chāi kāi , nǐ jiù kĕyǐ shōu qǔ , nǐ yĕ yào chéngquán wǒde xīnyuàn , jiāng shíwù gĕi wǒde jiā .

10 Yúshì Xīlán zhào zhe Suǒluómén suǒ yào de , gĕi tā xiāng bǎi mù hé sōng mù .

11 Suǒluómén gĕi Xīlán maìzi èr wàn gē Ěr , qīng yóu èr shí gē Ěr , zuò tā jiā de shíwù . Suǒluómén mĕi nián dōu shì zhèyàng gĕi Xīlán .

12 Yēhéhuá zhào zhe suǒ yīngxǔ de cì zhìhuì gĕi Suǒluómén . Xīlán yǔ Suǒluómén héhǎo , bǐcǐ lì yuē .

13 Suǒluómén wáng cóng Yǐsèliè rén zhōng tiāo qǔ fú kǔ de rén gòng yǒu sān wàn ,

14 Paì tāmen lún liú mĕi yuè yī wàn rén shàng Lìbānèn qù . yī gè yuè zaì Lìbānèn , liǎng gè yuè zaì jiā lǐ . yà duō ní lán zhǎng guǎn tāmen .

15 Suǒluómén yòng qī wàn káng tái de , bā wàn zaì shān shàng zaó shítou de .

16 Cǐ waì , Suǒluómén yòng sān qiā sān bǎi dū gōng de , jiān guǎn gōngrén .

17 Wáng xià líng , rén jiù zaó chū yòu dà yòu bǎoguì de shítou lái , yòng yǐ lì diàn de gēnjī .

18 Suǒluómén de jiàngrén hé Xīlán de jiàngrén , bìng Jiābālè rén , dōu jiāng shítou zaó hǎo , yùbeì mù liào hé shítou jiàn diàn .

Chapter 5

Solomon's agreement with Hiram. (1-9) Solomon's workmen for the temple. (10-18)

Verses 1-9 Here is Solomon's design to build a temple. There is no adversary, no Satan, so the word is; no instrument of Satan to oppose it, or to divert from it. Satan does all he can, to hinder temple work. When there is no evil abroad, then let us be ready and active in that which is good, and get forward. Let God's promises quicken our endeavours. And all outward skill and advantages should be made serviceable to the interests of Christ's kingdom. It Tyre supplies Israel with craftsmen, Israel will supply Tyre with corn, ( Ezekiel 27:17 ) . Thus, by the wise disposal of Providence, one country has need of another, and is benefitted by another, that there may be dependence on one another, to the glory of God.

Verses 10-18 The temple was chiefly built by the riches and labour of Gentiles, which typified their being called into the church. Solomon commanded, and they brought costly stones for the foundation. Christ, who is laid for a Foundation, is a chosen and precious Stone. We should lay our foundation firm, and bestow most pains on that part of our religion which lies out of the sight of men. And happy those who, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, for a habitation of God through the Spirit. Who among us will build in the house of the Lord?

This chapter relates Solomon's preparation for building the temple: on Hiram, king of Tyre, sending a congratulatory letter to him, he returned another to him, signifying his intention to build an house for God, and requesting him to supply him with timber, and men to work it, 1Ki 5:1-6; to which Hiram readily agreed, and sent him cedar and fir, and Solomon in return sent him food for his household; and things went on very amicably between them, 1Ki 5:7-12; the chapter concludes with an account of Solomon's workmen, where, how, and in what they were employed, 1Ki 5:13-18.
