Ezekiel 20:5

And say unto them, thus saith the Lord God
Here begins the account of their fathers; of God's unmerited goodness to them, and of their sins and transgressions against him, and how it fared with them: in the day when I chose Israel;
to be his peculiar people, above all people on the face of the earth; when he declared his choice of them, and made it appear that he had chosen them, and distinguished them, by special blessings and favours bestowed on them: and lifted up mine hand to the seed of the house of Jacob;
the posterity of Jacob or Israel, to whom the Lord swore that he would do such and such things for them; of which the lifting up the hand was a token; it is a gesture used in swearing, ( Daniel 12:7 ) ; and so the Targum,

``and I swore unto them by my word:''

and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt:
by his name Jehovah; by the prophets he sent unto them, Moses, Aaron, and Miriam; and by the miracles he wrought among them: when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I [am] the Lord your God:
making promise of it, declaring it unto them, confirming it with an oath; see ( Hebrews 6:17 Hebrews 6:18 ) .

3 人 子 啊 ， 你 要 告 诉 以 色 列 的 长 老 说 ， 主 耶 和 华 如 此 说 ： 你 们 来 是 求 问 我 麽 ？ 主 耶 和 华 说 ： 我 指 着 我 的 永 生 起 誓 ， 我 必 不 被 你 们 求 问 。

4 人 子 啊 ， 你 要 审 问 审 问 他 们 麽 ？ 你 当 使 他 们 知 道 他 们 列 祖 那 些 可 憎 的 事 ，

5 对 他 们 说 ， 主 耶 和 华 如 此 说 ： 当 日 我 拣 选 以 色 列 ， 向 雅 各 家 的 後 裔 起 誓 ， 在 埃 及 地 将 自 己 向 他 们 显 现 ， 说 ： 我 是 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 的 　 神 。

6 那 日 我 向 他 们 起 誓 ， 必 领 他 们 出 埃 及 地 ， 到 我 为 他 们 察 看 的 流 奶 与 蜜 之 地 ； 那 地 在 万 国 中 是 有 荣 耀 的 。

7 我 对 他 们 说 ， 你 们 各 人 要 抛 弃 眼 所 喜 爱 那 可 憎 之 物 ， 不 可 因 埃 及 的 偶 像 玷 污 自 己 。 我 是 耶 和 华 ─ 你 们 的 　 神 。
