23 Aber er weigerte sich und sprach: Ich will nicht essen. Da drangen seine Knechte und auch das Weib in ihn; und er hörte auf ihre Stimme und stand von der Erde auf und setzte sich auf das Bett.

1 Samuel 28:23

But he refused, and said, I will not eat
Choosing rather to die with famine than by the sword of the Philistines; though perhaps his meaning is, he could not eat, his stomach loathed it, being overwhelmed with grief and trouble:

but his servants, together with the woman, compelled him;
not by force, but by arguments; they reasoned with him, and prevailed upon him to try to eat:

and he hearkened unto their voice;
and agreed to eat, if he could;

so he arose from the earth;
on which he lay at his full length:

and sat upon the bed;
or couch, it being now the custom to recline on couches at caring; though some deny that this custom obtained so early.

21 Und das Weib trat zu Saul und sah, daß er sehr bestürzt war; und sie sprach zu ihm: Siehe, deine Magd hat auf deine Stimme gehört, und ich habe mein Leben aufs Spiel gesetzt und deinen Worten gehorcht, die du zu mir geredet hast;

22 und nun höre doch auch du auf die Stimme deiner Magd, und laß mich dir einen Bissen Brot vorsetzen, und iß, daß Kraft in dir sei, wenn du deines Weges gehst.

24 Und das Weib hatte ein gemästetes Kalb im Hause; und sie eilte und schlachtete es; und sie nahm Mehl und knetete es und backte daraus ungesäuerte Kuchen.

25 Und sie brachte es herzu vor Saul und vor seine Knechte, und sie aßen. Und sie machten sich auf und gingen fort in selbiger Nacht.
