And after certain years
Two years, according to the Syriac and Arabic versions, or in the third year after the affinity was contracted, see ( 1 Kings 22:2 ) ,

he went down to Ahab to Samaria;
to pay him a visit upon the alliance, civil and matrimonial, contracted between them:

and Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people
that he had with him;
entertained him and his retinue in a very grand and liberal manner:

and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramothgilead;

1 So hatte Josaphat Reichtum und Ehre in Fülle. Und er verschwägerte sich mit Ahab.

2 Und nach Verlauf von einigen Jahren zog er zu Ahab nach Samaria hinab; und Ahab schlachtete für ihn und für das Volk, das bei ihm war, Klein-und Rindvieh in Menge; und er verleitete ihn, wider Ramoth-Gilead hinaufzuziehen.

3 Und Ahab, der König von Israel, sprach zu Josaphat, dem König von Juda: Willst du mit mir nach Ramoth-Gilead ziehen? Und er sprach zu ihm: Ich will sein wie du, und mein Volk wie dein Volk, und will mit dir in den Streit ziehen.

4 Und Josaphat sprach zu dem König von Israel: Befrage doch heute das Wort Jehovas.

5 Da versammelte der König von Israel die Propheten, vierhundert Mann, und er sprach zu ihnen: Sollen wir wider Ramoth-Gilead in den Streit ziehen, oder soll ich davon abstehen? Und sie sprachen: Ziehe hinauf, und Gott wird es in die Hand des Königs geben.
