And his father Zechariah 1was filled with the Holy Spirit and 2prophesied, saying,
3"Blessed be the Lord 4God of Israel, for he has 5visited and 6redeemed his people
and 7has raised up 8a horn of salvation for us 9in the house of his servant David,
10as 11he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets from of old,
12that we should be saved from our enemies and from the hand of all who hate us;
13to show the mercy promised to our fathers and 14to remember his holy 15covenant,
16the oath that he swore to our father Abraham, to grant us
that we, being delivered from the hand of our enemies, might serve him 17without fear,
18in holiness and righteousness before him 19all our days.
And you, child, will be called 20the prophet of 21the Most High; for 22you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways,
to give knowledge of salvation to his people 23in the forgiveness of their sins,
because of the 24tender mercy of our God, whereby 25the sunrise shall 26visit us27from on high
to 28give light to 29those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into 30the way of 31peace."
