2 Samuel 19:9

And all the people were at strife through all the tribes of
Israel
Excepting the tribe of Judah; they blamed and reproved one another for taking part with Absalom in the rebellion, and especially for their coldness and backwardness in bringing back David to Jerusalem:

saying, the king saved us out of the hand of our enemies;
exposed his life to danger, fought our battles for us, and gained us victory over our enemies, and saved us from them, especially those next mentioned:

and he delivered us out of the hand of the Philistines;
in the times of Saul, and since; which were benefits which ought to have endeared him to them, and were aggravations of the crime of those who had been concerned in the late rebellion; and were such as ought not to be buried in oblivion, and were proper arguments to engage them to return to their allegiance to him, and abide by it:

and now he is fled out of the land for Absalom;
being obliged to quit Jerusalem, and the land of Judea on this side Jordan, and to pass that river; not from a spirit of cowardice, but from tenderness to his son, he did not choose to fight against; and from a concern for his metropolis Jerusalem, lest that should be hurt, as well as for the safety of his person.

7 Or dunque levati, esci fuori, e parla alla tua gente graziosamente; perciocchè io giuro per lo Signore, che se tu non esci fuori, non pure un uomo dimorerà teco questa notte; e ciò ti sarà un male peggiore che ogni altro male che ti sia avvenuto dalla tua giovanezza infino ad ora.

8 Allora il re si levò, e si pose a sedere nella porta. E fu rapportato, e detto a tutto il popolo: Ecco, il re siede nella porta. E tutto il popolo venne davanti al re. ORA, essendosene gl’Israeliti fuggiti ciascuno alle sue stanze,

9 tutto il popolo contendeva fra sè stesso in tutte le tribù d’Israele, dicendo: Il re ci ha riscossi dalle mani de’ nostri nemici: egli ancora ci ha salvati dalle mani de’ Filistei; e ora egli è fuggito dal paese per cagione di Absalom.

10 Ed Absalom, il qual noi avevamo unto sopra noi, è morto nella battaglia. Ora dunque, perchè non dite voi nulla di far ritornare il re?

11 E il re Davide mandò a dire a’ sacerdoti Sadoc ed Ebiatar: Parlate agli Anziani di Giuda, dicendo: Perchè sareste voi gli ultimi a ricondurre il re in casa sua? or i ragionamenti di tutto Israele erano pervenuti al re in casa sua.
