17 Poi in quel dì vi fu una molto aspra battaglia; ed Abner, con la gente d’Israele fu sconfitto dalla gente di Davide.

2 Samuel 2:17

And there was a very sore battle that day
When the twenty four men fell together, and no decision could be made thereby, or any triumph on either side, both armies drew up in battle array, and fought very furiously:

and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of
David;
the army under him had the worst of it, and were routed, and obliged to flee before the army of David under the command of Joab.

15 Quegli adunque si levarono, e passarono in numero uguale; dodici dalla parte di Beniamino, e d’Isboset, figliuolo di Saulle, e dodici della gente di Davide.
16 E ciascun di loro prese il suo compagno per la testa, e gli ficcò la spada nel fianco; e tutti insieme caddero morti. Per ciò fu quel luogo chiamato. Helcat-hassurim, ch’è in Gabaon.
17 Poi in quel dì vi fu una molto aspra battaglia; ed Abner, con la gente d’Israele fu sconfitto dalla gente di Davide.
18 Or quivi erano i tre figliuoli di Seruia, Ioab, ed Abisai ed Asael; ed Asael era leggier di gambe, come un cavriuolo ch’è per la campagna.
19 Ed Asael si mise a perseguitare Abner, e non si torceva di dietro a lui, nè a destra nè a sinistra.
