11 E il nome della stella si chiama Assenzio; e la terza parte delle acque divenne assenzio; e molti degli uomini morirono di quelle acque; perciocchè eran divenute amare.

Revelation 8:11

And the name of the star is called Wormwood
Because of the bitter afflictions, sorrows, and distresses which it was the instrument of; just as Naomi called herself Mara, because the Almighty had dealt bitterly with her, ( Ruth 1:20 ) ;

and the third part of the waters became wormwood;
that is, the inhabitants of the provinces and cities belonging to the Roman empire were afflicted with grievous and bitter afflictions and calamities; so great distresses are called wormwood, and waters of gall given to drink, ( Jeremiah 9:15 ) ( Lamentations 3:19 ) ;

and many men died of the waters, because they were bitter;
through the barbarities and cruelties of these savage people, who afflicted the empire: there seems to be an allusion to ( Exodus 15:23 ) .

9 e la terza parte delle creature che son nel mare, le quali hanno vita, morì; e la terza parte delle navi perì.

10 Poi sonò il terzo angelo; e cadde dal cielo una grande stella, ardente come una torcia; e cadde sopra la terza parte de’ fiumi, e sopra le fonti delle acque.

12 Poi sonò il quarto angelo; e la terza parte del sole fu percossa, e la terza parte della luna, e la terza parte delle stelle, sì che la terza parte loro scurò; e la terza parte del giorno non luceva, nè la notte simigliantemente.

13 Ed io riguardai, e udii un angelo volante in mezzo del cielo, che disse con gran voce tre volte: Guai, guai, guai a coloro che abitano sopra la terra, per gli altri suoni della tromba de’ tre angeli che hanno da sonare!
