Acts 25:18

Against whom when the accusers stood up
As they were obliged to do, whilst they were exhibiting their charges, bearing their testimonies, and producing their proofs; ( Acts 25:7 ) .

They brought none accusation of such things as I supposed:
for by his being left in bonds, and by the information of the chief priests and elders, and their violence against him, he imagined he must be chargeable with some notorious capital crime.

16 A’ quali risposi che non è l’usanza de’ Romani di donare alcuno, per farlo morire, avanti che l’accusato abbia gli accusatori in faccia e gli sia stato dato luogo di purgarsi dell’accusa.
17 Essendo eglino adunque venuti qua, io, senza indugio, il giorno seguente, sedendo in sul tribunale, comandai che quell’uomo mi fosse menato davanti.
18 Contro al quale gli accusatori, essendo compariti, non proposero alcuna accusa delle cose che io sospettava.
19 Ma aveano contro a lui certe quistioni intorno alla lor superstizione, ed intorno ad un certo Gesù morto, il qual Paolo dicea esser vivente.
20 Ora, stando io in dubbio come io procederei nell’inquisizion di questo fatto, gli dissi se voleva andare in Gerusalemme, e quivi esser giudicato intorno a queste cose.
