Ezechiele 5:2-12

2 Ardine la terza parte col fuoco, in mezzo della città, mentre si compieranno i giorni dell’assedio; poi prendine un’altra terza parte, e percuotila con la spada d’intorno alla città; e spargi l’altra terza parte al vento; ed io sguainerò la spada dietro a loro.

3 Ma pure prendine un piccol numero, e legalo a’ lembi della tua vesta.

4 E di questo prendine ancora una parte, e gittala in mezzo del fuoco, e ardila col fuoco. Di quella uscirà un fuoco contro a tutta la casa d’Israele.

5 Così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Questa è Gerusalemme; io l’avea posta in mezzo delle nazioni, e vi erano diversi paesi d’intorno a lei.

6 Ma ella ha trasgredite le mie leggi, per darsi all’empietà, più che le nazioni; ed ha trasgrediti i miei statuti, più che i paesi ch’erano d’intorno a lei; perciocchè han rigettate le mie leggi, e non son camminati ne’ miei statuti.

7 Perciò, così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Perciocchè voi avete sopravanzate le genti ch’erano d’intorno a voi, e non siete camminati ne’ miei statuti, e non avete messe ad effetto le mie leggi; anzi non pure avete fatto secondo le usanze delle genti ch’erano d’intorno a voi;

8 perciò, così ha detto il Signore Iddio: Eccomi altresì contro a te; ed io eseguirò i miei giudicii in mezzo di te, nel cospetto delle genti;

9 e farò in te ciò che mai non ho fatto, e non farò giammai più, per cagion di tutte le tue abbominazioni.

10 Perciò, i padri mangeranno i lor figliuoli in mezzo di te, e i figliuoli mangeranno i lor padri; ed io eseguirò i miei giudicii in te, e dispergerò tutto il tuo rimanente a tutti i venti.

11 Per tanto, come io vivo, dice il Signore Iddio, perchè tu hai contaminato il mio santuario con tutti i tuoi fatti esecrabili, e con tutte le tue abbominazioni, io altresì ti raderò, e il mio occhio non perdonerà, ed io ancora non risparmierò.

12 Una terza parte di te morrà di pestilenza, e sarà consumata di fame, nel mezzo di te; e un’altra terza parte caderà per la spada d’intorno a te; ed io dispergerò a tutti i venti l’altra terza parte, e sguainerò la spada dietro a loro.

INTRODUCTION TO EZEKIEL 5

This chapter is of the same argument with the former; and contains a type of Jerusalem's destruction; an explanation of that type; what were the reasons of God's judgments on that city; and the nature, rise, and end of them. The type is in Eze 5:1-4; the explanation of that type is in Eze 5:5; the reasons of the severe judgments threatened are changing the statutes of the Lord, and not walking in them, and defiling the sanctuary with their abominations, Eze 5:6-11; an account of the judgments of God, answerable to each of the parts in the type, Eze 5:12; the ends of these judgments are, with respect to God, the accomplishment of his anger, and the satisfaction of his justice; with respect to the Jews, bringing them to an acknowledgment that he had spoken in his zeal; and, with respect to the nations, their instruction and astonishment, Eze 5:13-15; and the chapter is concluded with an assurance that these judgments would be sent, Eze 5:16,17.
