Geremia 9:12

12 Chi è l’uomo savio? sì, ponga mente a questo; e chi è colui, al quale la bocca del Signore abbia parlato? sì, annunzilo. Perchè è perita la terra, ed è stata desolata come un deserto, senza che alcuno vi passi più?

Jeremiah 9:12

Who is the wise man that may understand this?
&c.] Not the calamity, but the cause of it; a man of wisdom would inquire into it, find it out, and understand it; but the intimation is, that there was not a wise man among them, at least very few; there were scarce any that took any notice of these things, or were concerned about them: and who is he to whom the mouth of the Lord hath spoken;
and foretold this desolation and destruction; meaning a prophet: that he may declare it;
as from the Lord, namely, what follows: for what the land perisheth, and is burnt like a wilderness, that none
passeth through?
that is, what were the sins of the inhabitants of the land, which brought such distress upon it, and for which it became such a ruinous heap, and like the heath in the wilderness, so that it had no inhabitant, nor even a passenger: they must be some very great and abominable iniquities that were the cause of all this.

10 Io prenderò a far pianto, e rammarichio per questi monti, e lamento per le mandre del deserto; perciocchè sono arse, e non vi passa più alcuno, e non vi si ode più la voce del bestiame; e gli uccelli del cielo, e le bestie se ne son fuggite, e sono andate via.

11 Ed io ridurrò Gerusalemme in monti di ruine, in ricetto di sciacalli; e metterò le città di Giuda in desolazione, senza che alcuno abiti più in esse.

12 Chi è l’uomo savio? sì, ponga mente a questo; e chi è colui, al quale la bocca del Signore abbia parlato? sì, annunzilo. Perchè è perita la terra, ed è stata desolata come un deserto, senza che alcuno vi passi più?

13 Il Signore ha detto: Perciocchè han lasciata la mia Legge, che io avea lor proposta; e non hanno ascoltata la mia voce, e non son camminati secondo quella.

14 Anzi sono andati dietro alla durezza del cuor loro, e dietro a’ Baali; il che i lor padri insegnarono loro.
