Giovanni 5:8 Meaning and Commentary

John 5:8

Jesus saith to him, rise
From thy bed, or couch, on which he lay in one of the porches: and

take up thy bed and walk;
these words were spoken by the same power, as those to Lazarus, which called him out of his grave; as appears from the effect they had upon the man, who was in himself impotent, weak, and helpless.

6 Gesù, veduto costui giacere, e sapendo che già lungo tempo era stato infermo, gli disse: Vuoi tu esser sanato?
7 L’infermo gli rispose: Signore, io non ho alcuno che mi metta nella pescina, quando l’acqua è intorbidata; e quando io vi vengo, un altro vi scende prima di me.
8 Gesù gli disse: Levati, togli il tuo letticello, e cammina.
9 E in quello stante quell’uomo fu sanato, e tolse il suo letticello, e camminava. Or in quel giorno era sabato.
10 Laonde i Giudei dissero a colui ch’era stato sanato: Egli è sabato; non ti è lecito di togliere il tuo letticello.
