20 se no, esca il fuoco d’Abimelec, e consumi i Sichemiti e la casa di Millo; esca parimente il fuoco de’ Sichemiti e della casa di Millo, e consumi Abimelec.

Judges 9:20

But if not
If it appeared that they had not acted uprightly and sincerely in this matter:

let fire come out of Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the
house of Millo;
let wrath, rage, and fury, break out from Abimelech like fire, and issue in the destruction of those that made him king, both those of Shechem and of Millo:

and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of
Millo, and devour Abimelech;
let them be incensed against Abimelech, and seek his ruin, and procure it: the sense is, that he wishes that strife, contention, and quarrels, might arise among them, and they mutually destroy each other; the words are imprecative of evil upon them both, and which had its exact fulfilment.

18 Ma oggi voi vi siete sollevati contro alla casa di mio padre, e avete uccisi sopra una medesima pietra i suoi figliuoli, in numero di settant’uomini, e avete costituito re sopra i Sichemiti Abimelec, figliuolo della sua serva, perciocchè egli è vostro fratello;

19 se, dico, siete oggi proceduti con verità e con integrità, verso Ierubbaal e verso la sua casa, godete d’Abimelec, e Abimelec goda di voi;

20 se no, esca il fuoco d’Abimelec, e consumi i Sichemiti e la casa di Millo; esca parimente il fuoco de’ Sichemiti e della casa di Millo, e consumi Abimelec.

21 Poi Giotam scampò e se ne fuggì d’innanzi ad Abimelec suo fratello, e andò in Beer, e quivi dimorò.

22 E Abimelec signoreggiò sopra Israele tre anni.
